Qualifications:
  • Education: Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Licensure: Must have an active New York State license. Must be board-certified or board-eligible.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner (not necessarily in Nephrology). Nephrology experience is a plus but not required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in patient assessment, diagnostic test interpretation, medication management, and electronic health records. Willingness to learn nephrology-specific procedures and treatments.
  • Soft Skills: Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, empathy, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories, physical examinations, and renal function evaluations.
  • Assist in the diagnosis and management of kidney-related conditions such as chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte imbalances, glomerulonephritis, and end-stage renal disease.
  • Order, interpret, and analyze diagnostic tests including blood work (creatinine, BUN, GFR), urinalysis, and imaging studies.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising nephrologist.
  • Prescribe medications, including antihypertensives, diuretics, and phosphate binders, as appropriate.
  • Educate patients and families on kidney disease management, dietary modifications (fluid, sodium, potassium, phosphorus restrictions), medication adherence, and when to seek emergency care.
  • Coordinate care with dialysis centers, transplant teams, and other specialists within the multi-specialty practice.
  • Monitor patient progress through regular follow-up visits and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation in electronic medical records.
  • Stay current with advancements in nephrology through continuing medical education and collaboration with supervising physicians.
