We are seeking skilled and compassionate Phlebotomists to support the healthcare facilities across Puerto Rico. Qualifications:
- Job qualifications & certifications:
- At least six (6) months of hands-on phlebotomy experience in a clinical or healthcare setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment.
- Reliable transportation and flexibility to support multiple VA clinic locations.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician credential (ASCP, NHA, or equivalent).
- Prior experience working with veteran, geriatric, or behavioral health patient populations.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems and clinical documentation standards.
- Willingness to comply with all VA Contractor Rules of Behavior, privacy, and information security requirements.
- Eligibility to work in the United States and compliance with E-Verify and federal employment requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures in accordance with established clinical protocols, aseptic techniques, and VA safety standards.
- Verify patient identity using two approved identifiers prior to each procedure, in strict compliance with VA patient safety requirements.
- Deliver respectful, compassionate, and patient-centered care to a diverse veteran population, including elderly patients and individuals with chronic, behavioral health, or service-related conditions.
- Properly label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and timely transport.
- Accurately document specimen collections, test orders, and patient interactions within VA-approved electronic health record systems.
- Clearly explain blood collection procedures and post-collection instructions to patients in a calm and professional manner.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and promptly report concerns to supervisory or clinical personnel.
- Maintain phlebotomy workstations in a clean, organized, disinfected, and fully stocked condition at all times.
- Demonstrate flexibility by rotating between VA outpatient clinics and medical center locations across Puerto Rico as operational needs require.
