The Medical Support Assistant provides front-line administrative and customer service support within a clinical research hospital environment. This role supports patient admissions, appointment scheduling, reception services, and coordination of patient services while ensuring confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with NIH policies.

Qualifications:
- Job qualifications & certifications:
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- NIH-required infectious disease documentation (measles, TB, influenza, etc.)
- Completion of mandatory NIH training within 30 days of start.
- Ability to obtain and maintain NIH ID badge.
- Skills:
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Professional demeanor and emotional intelligence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person and telephone customer service to patients, families, and clinical staff.
- Register and admit patients; update demographic information in electronic medical record systems.
- Schedule, cancel, and manage patient appointments.
- Monitor patient wait times and communicate delays appropriately.
- Create and process patient travel vouchers and reimbursement documentation.
- Maintain reception areas, issue patient ID wristbands, and respond to medical emergencies per guidelines.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and Privacy Act compliance.
- Support inpatient and outpatient care areas.
- Float between Patient Support Services Department units as needed.
- Maintain professional appearance and adhere to NIH dress code.
- Comply with attendance, punctuality, and conduct standards.
